This purchase order from the city, issued on June 10, 2025, to Mears Destination Services Inc, involves a single transaction valued at $6,747. The city, represented by the Chief of Staff Heather R Fagan, is contracting transportation services to facilitate visits for families and survivors of the Pulse tragedy. The visits are scheduled over four days (June 11-14) and involve about 120 people from 24 families and approximately 70 survivors, each accompanied by a support person. The transportation ensures privacy, safety, and emotional support, and is a critical component of the event. The award is a one-time contract with no indication of a multi-year arrangement.
Description
The city is coordinating opportunities for families and survivors of the Pulse tragedy to visit the building prior to its demolition later this year. We are hosting these over four days, June 11 - 14, in coordination with the 9th annual remembrance events. We have about 120 people representing 24 families and about 70 survivors + a support person for each survivor planning to attend one of 17 two hour sessions (from beginning orientation and meeting at the neutral location - the DoubleTree Hotel) transported to the site visit for a 30-minute period and then back to the hotel for optional time with spiritual care and mental health. We are coordinating these visits in small groups, appx 15 people at time, to protect their privacy and allow them to have their time in the space. The largest expense is the transportation, which is critical to our plan. Providing transportation help us to protect their privacy, prevent them from being approached by media or other unwanted interactions and also delays their need to drive before and after such an emotional experience.
