Award for research on Parkinson's Disease focusing on epigenomic and spatial transcriptomic analysis of pancreatic tissue to understand disease mechanisms.
Description
This project aims to investigate how pancreatic neuroendocrine dysfunction contributes to Parkinson's Disease pathogenesis by generating and analyzing transcriptomic, epigenomic, and spatial data from postmortem pancreatic tissue of patients with PD, PD+T2DM, and unaffected controls. Using single-nucleus and spatial multiomics technologies, the study seeks to uncover molecular and cellular mechanisms, including cell-cell interactions and spatial dynamics, linking metabolic and neurodegenerative processes.
