NIH grant awarded to Johns Hopkins University to develop OPC-specific AAV vectors to study their role in aging and Alzheimer's disease, focusing on disease progression and therapeutic potential.

Description

The project aims to produce new adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors that specifically target oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) to define their roles in aging and Alzheimer’s disease. The study will explore how reactive transformation of OPCs surrounding Aβ plaques impacts disease progression and plaque burden in AD model mice, using innovative methodologies including DNA enhancer identification, viral capsid selection, and brain-wide OPC targeting analysis.
