This award funds a clinical trial to test the safety and efficacy of an improved second-generation tissue engineered vascular graft designed for congenital heart surgery in children, aiming to reduce stenosis and improve graft growth and compliance.

Description

A single-institution, prospective, single-armed clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the second-generation tissue engineered vascular graft (TEVG) in 24 children with single ventricle anomalies undergoing Fontan surgery. The study monitors grafts over 2 years using echocardiography and MRI, hypothesizing a lower incidence of stenosis and better growth and compliance.
