A NIH-funded research project at Wake Forest University to test the efficacy of the EMERALD protocol in lowering cholesterol among Emergency Department patients with chest pain, aiming to improve preventive cardiovascular care.
Description
This study will evaluate the efficacy of an ED-driven cardiovascular disease prevention program aimed at identifying and treating high cholesterol, potentially applicable to other cardiovascular risk factors. It involves a randomized controlled trial of 130 ED patients and mixed methods for qualitative insights. The project is conducted at Wake Forest University School of Medicine with mentorship from a transdisciplinary team of senior scientists. The long-term goals include developing expertise in ED-based preventive cardiovascular care and becoming an independent investigator in this field.
