Description

The Niki Stanley Slide AMLRP involves disturbance of up to 3.3 acres, complete excavation of a landslide threatening the turn-around and parking area at the head of the access drive for the Stanley residence, and repair of a gabion ditch installed along the toe of the current landslide under a previous AML reclamation project. Excavated earthen material will be used to fill areas along stable portions of a nearby abandoned mine bench. A low-water crossing will be installed to allow access to the lower portion of the slide. The project includes installation of an excavated rock ditch to carry drainage to a new gabion ditch spur, which connects to the reconstructed gabion ditch. Excavated material will be transported to a permitted Title V underground mine site for future reclamation use. The project area has experienced various disturbances including landslide activity, residential and road construction, coal mining, and previous reclamation projects. Forested habitat may be disturbed to access upper slide portions. No direct disturbance of streams, caves, or underground mine workings will occur. The area will be revegetated using standard AML Reclamation Seed Mixture, with hydromulching and hydroseeding as needed. Residential lawn areas will use the standard AML Residential Seed Mixture.
