Award for a sole source procurement of the Digit Widget by the University of New Mexico Hospital to Hand Biomechanics Lab for $100,000 over three years, starting September 16, 2026, to treat contracted PIP joints by applying extension torque via skeletal pins.
Description
The Digit Widget grows the palmar soft tissues of a contracted PIP joint back to length by transmitting an extension torque to the joint via skeletal pins. When combined with a surgical plan to rebalance the forces across the joint toward normal, the Widget can improve the odds of increasing the joint's active range of motion. Avoids skin pressure limitations of conventional splints and casts, minimal restriction of hand function during soft tissue growth.
