This NIH-funded project develops a multiscale computational model to study hippocampal neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's Disease, linking cellular degeneration to cognitive decline and enabling virtual drug testing.
Description
The project aims to develop spatially precise, multiscale computational models incorporating gene expression and connectivity data to understand how degeneration of specific neuronal cell types leads to network dysfunction and cognitive decline in Alzheimer's Disease. Using MERFISH spatial transcriptomics and viral connectomics in 5xFAD mice and human post-mortem tissues, the model will identify susceptible neurons and simulate disconnection effects, providing a virtual testbed for drug development targeting cognitive dementia.
