Research project funded by NIH focusing on HIV structural biology and viral dynamics, conducted by University of Utah, Salt Lake City, with multiple research aims on HIV infection mechanisms and viral dynamics.

Description

To establish a productive infection, HIV-1 must enter the cell, copy its RNA genome into DNA, enter the nucleus, and integrate into the host cell DNA. Studies in this project will uncover currently unknown aspects of these processes in molecular detail, providing a foundation for the development of new anti-viral targets. The project will also characterize how the HIV-1 inhibitor lenacapavir binds the viral capsid and inhibits nuclear entry.
