Personalized multi-medication packaging with integrated real-time instrumentation to improve adherence

Insightfil received funding to develop an NFC-based medication adherence technology platform to improve patient adherence and outcomes in home-based care settings, with demonstrated pilot success and ongoing development towards commercialization.

Description

This project aims to develop and validate NFC-based medication adherence technology to improve health outcomes and reduce costs across various care settings. Insightfil is developing a novel disease and medication-form agnostic technology platform using Near-Field-Communication (NFC) tags to measure medication adherence and reduce non-adherence in home-based settings with minimal need for technological interaction. The app delivers real-time, personalized, context-sensitive notifications to encourage medication adherence. A Phase I pilot study demonstrated adherence improvement from 64% to over 95%, maintained over 18 months. In Phase II, collaboration with UMass Chan Medical School will develop an NFC-enabled native app, optimize it through user testing, and demonstrate acceptability and fidelity in various care settings, aiming to advance the technology toward commercialization and adoption, increasing adherence and improving patient outcomes.
