This NIH grant supports a module at Duke University that provides advanced mass spectrometry and molecular biology resources and training to vision science researchers, fostering collaboration and supporting new scientists.
Description
The objective of the Mass Spectrometry and Molecular Biology Module is to enhance the capabilities of individual investigators to conduct cutting edge research in the vision sciences. The aims are to provide resources, support, and training for studies involving mass spectrometry, molecular, and cell biology techniques at a level exceeding individual laboratories; to promote collegiality across the community of vision scientists through sharing resources, techniques, and expertise; and to engage colleagues in conducting vision research, including supporting the next generation of basic and clinician scientists. This Module will support sophisticated facilities with state-of-the-art instrumentation and software, supervised by experienced personnel skilled in proteomics, mass spectrometry of small molecules, RT-PCR, fluorescent imaging, and tissue culture. These shared resources will foster interactions within the research community.
