This award funds research to develop and evaluate a STAT5 activator to enhance CD8+ T cell survival and function in solid tumors, aiming to improve T cell-based cancer therapies, particularly for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma.

Description

We propose to evaluate a strategy to overcome the lack of pro-survival cytokines present within the tumor microenvironment that can prevent a sustained T cell response against cancer. We have developed an activator of STAT5 that can provide CD8+ T cells with the instructive signals needed to persist and retain their functionality within solid tumors, such as pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. This approach has the potential to overcome a barrier that currently limits the treatment of solid tumors by T cell therapies.
