The GUIDeS Shared Resource is a NIH-funded project by the National Cancer Institute to support early-stage and junior investigators in cancer health disparities research, focusing on Native American populations, through mentorship, workshops, and career development.
Description
The GUIDeS (Investigator Development to Sustainability) Shared Resource aims to organize and facilitate services and career enhancement opportunities primarily targeted at early-stage investigators (ESIs), junior investigators (JIs), and postdoctoral scholars in cancer health disparities research, especially among Native American populations. The program emphasizes a two-eyed seeing paradigm, integrating Indigenous and Western knowledge systems to promote positive career trajectories and increase representation in cancer research. Since its inception in 2019, GUIDeS has supported numerous grant proposals and pipeline submissions, exceeding its 5-year goals. The program includes mentorship, analytical support, workshops, infrastructure, and career planning to help investigators develop successful R01-level research projects.
