This project will evaluate early-life risk factors associated with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), biomarker of intestinal inflammation and loss of gut microbiome diversity. The primary objective is to support Dr. Manasi Agrawal’s career development into an independent patient-oriented investigator in the field of molecular epidemiology of IBD. The project aims to develop risk prediction models for IBD based on early-life risk factors and apply them toward prediction of intestinal inflammation and loss of microbiome diversity to better understand IBD pathogenesis, identify at-risk persons, and guide therapeutic and preventive efforts. The research is conducted at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, focusing on Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, with the goal of understanding IBD pathogenesis and prevention.
