The UPHILL project aims to improve diagnosis of late-onset psychosis by using biomarkers to distinguish between psychosis caused by neurodegenerative diseases like DLB and AD versus primary psychiatric conditions, enabling better targeted treatments.
Description
This project uses recently developed, precise biomarkers to accurately diagnose patients with severe, late-onset psychotic symptoms due to underlying Dementia with Lewy Bodies (DLB) and/or Alzheimer's Disease (AD), and will define their clinical, cognitive, and neuroimaging characteristics. Accurate diagnosis is essential to guide appropriate treatment, including considering new disease-modifying Alzheimer's treatments for those with psychosis due to underlying AD pathology, and avoiding harmful neuroleptics for those with DLB.
