NIH-funded research project investigating the effects of in utero HIV and antiretroviral exposure on placental health and birth weight to optimize ARV use during pregnancy.

Description

This study will use stored blood and hair samples and clinical data from an ongoing birth cohort study to elucidate the independent effects of HIV and ARV exposure on the placenta and birth weight. The study aims to improve child health outcomes and inform ARV use during pregnancy by measuring ARV levels in dried blood spots and hair, analyzing placental histopathology, and relating these to birth outcomes in a cohort from Uganda.
