A research project funded by the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute to identify genetic factors and subtypes of sleep apnea and insomnia using machine learning and biobank data, aiming to improve diagnosis and treatment of these sleep disorders.

Description

This project aims to use machine learning to apply precise phenotyping to biobanks to identify the genetic bases of sleep apnea and insomnia, discover subtypes based on genetics and comorbidities, and improve patient stratification and personalized treatments. The study combines healthcare system biobank data with research polysomnography and advanced natural language processing methods to improve phenotyping accuracy. The project will perform the largest genetic analysis of validated sleep apnea and insomnia phenotypes to date, characterize novel loci, and study associations with clinical diagnosis data across three biobanks.
