A randomized controlled trial to assess the impact of HEPA air filters on biological aging and cardiometabolic health markers in older adults with eosinophilic COPD.

Description

This project aims to evaluate the hypothesized causal relationship between an in-home high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filter intervention and key molecular characteristics in multiple target tissues, as well as clinical indicators of cardiopulmonary health, in older adults with eosinophilic COPD. The project leverages data and samples already collected at baseline and during follow-up in a NIEHS-funded, double-blinded, randomized controlled trial placing HEPA filters vs sham in the homes of 178 former smokers with eosinophilic COPD for 12 months.
