A clinical trial funded by NIH to test OEA as a therapeutic for young adults with alcohol use disorder, focusing on multi-system effects and alcohol use reduction.

Description

This pilot clinical trial will evaluate the potential of oleoylethanolamide (OEA), a naturally occurring endocannabinoid-like lipid, to modulate brain, immune, and microbiome systems and reduce alcohol use behaviors in young adults with alcohol use disorder (AUD). The study involves a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 42 young adults aged 18-25, assessing effects of 6 weeks of OEA supplementation on peripheral inflammation, oral microbiome composition, neurocognitive function, and alcohol use outcomes.
