Research project funded by the National Institute of Mental Health to study the short-term effects of adolescent social media experiences on suicidal ideation, focusing on identity exploration and self-concept clarity through intensive longitudinal monitoring.

Description

This project aims to examine how direct pathways from and the bidirectional feedback between social media identity exploration and self-concept clarity influence suicidal thoughts within the same day. The study will use intensive longitudinal monitoring with 70 adolescents aged 14-16, responding to questions 4 times per day for 28 days. The research provides critical insights into how social media affects adolescent development and suicide risk in real time, identifying potential targets for intervention to support adaptive development and prevent suicide.
