Research project funded by the National Institute on Aging to study the role of neuropeptides in aging and lifespan regulation using gene editing in African killifish, aiming to develop clinical solutions for age-related diseases.

Description

This project investigates whether manipulation of neuropeptides can alter lifespan and neurodegeneration. Using the African killifish model, the research aims to determine if deletion of neuropeptides affects lifespan, healthspan, and cognitive decline, and whether neuropeptides can serve as pro-longevity factors when delivered later in life. The project involves CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to knockout 22 neuropeptides, with preliminary data indicating that knockout of GAL results in cognitive decline. The work aims to translate findings into clinical solutions for age-related diseases.
