Description
This project proposes stage IA research (R61 phase) to adapt the Detection of Elder Abuse Through Emergency Care Technicians (DETECT) screening tool for home-based primary care, emphasizing older adults recently diagnosed with AD/ADRD. It also includes a stage III multisite randomized controlled efficacy trial (R33 phase) of DETECT-RPC. The research objectives include evaluating the impact of laws and policies on reporting guidance, investigating provider barriers to recognizing and reporting elder mistreatment, adapting the DETECT screening tool for primary care, rigorously evaluating the effect of DETECT-RPC on mechanisms of action, assessing the impact on clinician identification and reporting, and evaluating benefits and harms of screening.
