A NIH-funded study investigating the efficacy of tyrosine kinase inhibitors, specifically imatinib, as preventive therapy for familial platelet disorder caused by RUNX1 mutations, aiming to reduce hematologic malignancy risk.
Description
This project aims to explore the role of RUNX1 mutations in hematologic malignancies and assess the potential of imatinib as a preventive therapy. It hypothesizes that RUNX1 mutations impair DNA damage repair in hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells, promoting clonal hematopoiesis and malignancy risk, and that imatinib can reduce clonal selection and prevent disease onset.
