The award funds research to mitigate radiation-induced salivary gland fibrosis by targeting copper metabolism, aiming to develop novel therapeutic interventions.
Description
This project investigates the role of copper transport in radiation-induced fibrosis and loss of salivary gland function by testing novel therapeutic interventions that target copper metabolism. It aims to develop new treatments for radiation-induced salivary gland fibrosis by elucidating molecular mechanisms of altered copper homeostasis, evaluating gene silencing of Atp7a in salivary glands, and assessing pharmacological targeting of copper transport.
