Description
This research aims to investigate the neurobiological mechanisms, specifically dysregulation of dopaminergic signaling in the ventral tegmental area and nucleus accumbens, that link chronic pain, negative affect, and nicotine use. The study will utilize behavioral, pharmacological, neurochemical, and optogenetic approaches in rat models to evaluate dopamine signaling and reinforcement efficacy of nicotine in chronic pain states.
