Description
The University of Missouri Comparative Medicine Program provides comprehensive research training for veterinarians, aiming to produce independent scientists in the field. The program offers intensive research experience, coursework in biomedical sciences, experimental design, statistics, ethics, grant writing, lab and project management, scientific rigor, and independent research stages. The program includes research opportunities in infectious disease, genetics, cryobiology, assisted reproduction, cardiovascular, renal, neurological functions, cancer, and biomedical engineering. Facilities include a National Mutant Mouse Resource Center, National Rat and Swine Resource Centers, Metagenomics and Metabolomics Centers, and BL3-biocontainment labs. Funds support four trainees over three years, culminating in a PhD dissertation, preparing them for leadership roles in comparative medicine.
