This award funds the development and pilot testing of an interactive online Motivational Interviewing training program for HIV counseling support staff to improve communication in HIV care.

Description

The project aims to develop and pilot an interactive, gamified, online training program in Motivational Interviewing (MI) tailored for HIV counseling support staff (CSS). The goal is to improve health communication in HIV care interactions, enabling CSS to deliver MI competently and integrate it into their healthcare communications. The study includes developing the training program, conducting a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) with 30 CSS participants, and exploring their experiences through interviews. The project responds to NIH's interest in optimizing communication practices between PLHIV and healthcare providers.
