A research project funded by Veterans Affairs to study post-COVID neurocognitive dysfunction in Veterans using longitudinal cognitive assessments, biomarkers, and brain imaging to understand complications and potential preventive antiviral therapy.

Description

This project aims to leverage a well-characterized cohort of Veterans with and without COVID-19 diagnosis to administer serial neuropsychological testing over up to three years to better characterize neurologic and mental health complications post-COVID-19 and to establish whether antiviral therapy is preventive of cognitive impairment. Blood biomarkers of brain damage and advanced imaging will also be studied on a subset of these patients to determine whether these predict and/or explain neurocognitive changes.
