The project aims to define components of the host’s immune response that contribute to liver damage and dysfunction during a severe bacterial infection caused by Ixodes ovatus ehrlichia (IOE). The study focuses on the role of type I and II interferons in immune-mediated liver damage and dysfunction, hypothesizing that IFN-dependent mechanisms lead to hepatocyte cell death and eosinophilic degranulation, exacerbating hepatic and systemic inflammation.
