The award funds research to elucidate the mechanisms of cortical microstimulation using electrophysiology and computational modeling to improve therapeutic brain stimulation techniques.

Description

This project aims to understand the biophysics of cortical stimulation through single-cell electrophysiology in human and mouse cortex, pharmacology, optical physiology, and computational modeling to identify mechanisms underlying electrical stimulation. The research tests hypotheses about excitatory and inhibitory neuron dynamics induced by direct local electrical stimulation (DLES) and develops neural network models to predict cortical responses and design stimulation patterns for therapeutic applications.
