Phonocath - An endovascular medical device to objectively evaluate Pulsatile Tinnitus

Development and validation of a novel microcatheter device to diagnose Pulsatile Tinnitus, aiming for a minimally invasive, accurate diagnostic tool with regulatory approval and clinical application.

Description

This Phase I STTR project, led by VDF Industries in collaboration with UCSF, aims to improve the diagnosis of Pulsatile Tinnitus (PT). PT is characterized by heartbeat-synchronous sound perception, often distressing and leading to depression or anxiety. Current diagnostic procedures are invasive and lengthy. The project involves developing a microcatheter prototype with advanced microsensor technology, validating it with in vitro and hybrid models, and preparing for regulatory approval and human trials. The goal is to create a minimally invasive, accurate diagnostic tool that can transform PT care.
