Research project funded by NIDDK to study sacral neural crest cell development in the gastrointestinal tract using advanced genetic and cellular techniques to understand enteric nervous system development and related disorders.

Description

This project aims to characterize the development of sacral neural crest cells into enteric neurons in the hindgut, compare their transcriptional profiles with vagal neural crest cells, and test the function of key transcription factors involved in their fate decisions. The study will utilize lineage labeling with RIA retroviruses, single-cell RNA sequencing, and CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing in chick models.
