Description
This project aims to investigate tandem repeat variation, a class of genomic variants prone to high mutation rates and associated with neurological disorders, including Huntington’s Disease and spinocerebellar ataxias. Using advanced TR profiling tools on whole genome sequenced schizophrenia cohorts, the study seeks to identify variations in short tandem repeats (STRs) and variable number tandem repeats (VNTRs) that may contribute to genetic risk factors for schizophrenia. The research leverages innovative algorithms for high-throughput TR genotyping applied to large, well-powered cohorts, with the potential to uncover novel genetic risk factors and provide insights into the role of tandem repeat variation in schizophrenia and human disease.
