Award to University of Illinois at Chicago for research on small molecule ligands targeting tau pathology in Alzheimer's and related dementias, aiming to develop therapeutics to inhibit tau toxicity and prevent neurodegeneration.
Description
This project aims to identify small molecule ligands that block tau toxicity by preventing activation of PP1/GSK3 signaling pathways. The research includes optimizing chemical leads, evaluating therapeutic potential in neuronal models, and conducting preclinical trials in mouse models of tauopathies. The project investigates the role of misfolded tau in neurodegenerative diseases and aims to develop small molecule ligands that inhibit tau toxicity through high throughput screening, chemical optimization, and preclinical testing in mouse models to evaluate efficacy in preventing neurodegeneration and associated symptoms.
