Description

This is a NIH grant project focusing on a clinical trial comparing intramuscular and oral penicillin for latent Rheumatic Heart Disease. The project aims to determine if oral penicillin is non-inferior to intramuscular penicillin in preventing disease progression. The study will conduct school-based echocardiographic screening of approximately 100,000 children. The project builds on previous successful screening and adherence strategies. The project will also examine economic and patient-reported outcomes. The funding agency is the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI).
