Research project funded by NINDS to study CO2-arousal impairment and neuronal circuit mechanisms in epilepsy models to prevent seizure-induced death.

Description

This project aims to understand the mechanisms of impairment of CO2-arousal in relevant animal models, which may inform risk stratification and prophylactic strategies against SUDEP. The research focuses on mouse models of temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) and Dravet Syndrome (DS), assessing how seizures impair CO2-arousal, neuronal function in arousal system components, and whether stimulating specific circuits can prevent seizure-induced death.
