Description

The Hematology Research Training Program (HRTP) at the University of Pennsylvania aims to identify, train, and mentor a diverse group of outstanding men and women to become teachers, scholars, and leaders in biomedical research related to hematology. Established in the mid-1970s, it has received NHLBI T32 funding since 1978, supporting 179 predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees. The program's mission is to sustain the hematology workforce through basic and translational research experiences, training, career advising, and mentorship. Goals include providing training that enables graduates to become successful investigators in academia, industry, federal agencies, NIH, and other research institutes; growing the research workforce in hematology; and collaborating with other T32-funded programs to exchange best practices. The program features formal and informal advising, workshops, attendance at national conferences, and training in responsible conduct of research and reproducibility. It includes an annual presentation and feedback session with internal and external advisory boards.
