A 3-year randomized controlled trial by University of Kentucky to pilot test a telehealth psychological intervention for chronic masticatory muscle pain, funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research with an award amount of $383,235.

Description

This project aims to generate data to support a future full-scale Phase II efficacy trial of a brief telehealth psychological intervention for chronic masticatory muscle pain disorders (MMPD). The intervention, called Physical Self-Regulation (PSR), has shown promise in reducing pain intensity when combined with standard dental care. The study will pilot PSR over telehealth (PSR-TH) and a control intervention in females with chronic MMPD, assessing recruitment, retention, fidelity, acceptability, and mediators/moderators of treatment effects.
