This award supports research investigating the link between toxicant exposures during Gulf War deployment and early markers of Parkinson's disease using advanced MRI and clinical criteria.

Description

The study aims to examine the long-term effects of Gulf War Illness (GWI) and its potential link to Parkinson's Disease (PD) among Gulf War veterans. It will evaluate veterans with high exposure to deployment-related chemicals, using advanced MRI techniques to measure iron, neuromelanin, and water content in the substantia nigra. The project will assess the probability of prodromal PD based on the Movement Disorder Society criteria and compare findings with control groups and PD patients.
