Development and validation of an AI tool to improve diagnosis, prognosis, and management of acute pulmonary embolism by integrating imaging and clinical data for personalized risk assessment and treatment recommendations.

Description

This project will develop and externally validate an outcome-linked AI tool that reads CT pulmonary angiograms together with key clinical data to estimate a patient's short-term risk from pulmonary embolism. By matching treatment intensity to individualized risk, it will enable safer early discharge for low-risk patients, earlier intervention for those likely to deteriorate, and fewer avoidable complications and hospital days. If successful, the EHR-integrated tool can be deployed across health systems to improve outcomes, reduce costs, and promote equitable, evidence-based PE care.
