The award supports a project to enhance malaria and arboviral disease surveillance in West Africa by integrating genomic and geospatial data to improve detection and response to antimalarial resistance, with benefits for global and U.S. public health.

Description

This project aims to strengthen genomic and geospatial surveillance systems for malaria and arboviral diseases in West Africa, with implications for public health response and disease control in the U.S. and globally. The project will geo-enable WACCBIP’s existing malaria genomic surveillance network and expand it to link DBS samples collected at the community level to advanced next-generation sequencing laboratories. It supports real-time visualization and monitoring of molecular markers of antimalarial resistance and enables geospatial alignment of genomic data with epidemiologic, environmental, programmatic, and sociodemographic data streams to guide intervention response and operational decision-making.
