NIH funded research to study how gut microbiota metabolites influence immune response and recovery after surgical injury, focusing on macrophage programming and microbial consortia development.
Description
This NIH grant project aims to elucidate mechanisms by which gut microbiota-derived metabolites program macrophages to express a survival-related phenotype, leading to full recovery from surgical injury and infection. The project will develop and test microbial consortia to enhance macrophage function and improve survival in mice subjected to surgical injury and infection.
