Research project funded by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research to study the role of Trp-positive trigeminal sensory neurons in saliva secretion, aiming to develop long-term treatments for dry mouth conditions.

Description

This project aims to determine the targets of Trp-positive trigeminal sensory neurons innervating the submandibular salivary gland and their role in altering saliva secretion based on chemical cues, using viral vector, genetic, immunohistochemistry strategies, in vivo calcium imaging, and chemogenetics. The research seeks to reveal long-term therapeutic targets to modulate basal saliva secretion and address salivary gland dysfunction.
