The WY INBRE-5 Data Science Core project aims to build a biomedical data science infrastructure to enhance research productivity and provide training in Wyoming. It supports research computing, skill development, and collaboration, with outcomes including publications, student training, and workforce development.

Description

The long-term goal of the Data Science Core (DSC) is to develop a robust biomedical data science infrastructure (education, analysis, collaboration) that continues to increase the research productivity of Wyoming researchers and provides career-enhancing training for Wyoming students. The primary goal during INBRE 4 was to build on successful data science programs supported by previous INBRE funding, addressing the state's needs and the unique structure of its INBRE network. The DSC aims to support research computing and data science expertise at the University of Wyoming by enhancing and extending successful programs, foster development of data science skills at community colleges and state entities, and expand impact through engagement with regional and national INBRE programs. Expected outcomes include educational and collaborative data science research projects, publications, student exposure to high-performance computing, cloud computing, and data science methodologies, and the development of a curriculum in computational biology. Resources such as instrumentation, awards, and travel grants will position investigators to secure external funding. The project will also develop undergraduate curricula and expand internship programs to improve workforce development.
