A fellowship project studying how binge drinking affects somatostatin receptor pathways in brain projections from the prefrontal cortex to the periaqueductal gray, using electrophysiology and neuroimaging in mice.

Description

This fellowship aims to investigate the role of somatostatin (SST) signaling onto prefrontal cortex (PFC) outputs to the periaqueductal gray (PAG), a pathway involved in pain and behavior modulation, altered in Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD). Using a mouse model of voluntary binge-like alcohol consumption, the study examines alcohol-induced changes in SST function and neuronal signaling.
