NIH grant awarded to New York University School of Medicine to develop human cornea organoids for regenerative treatment of corneal scarring, focusing on cell integration, wound healing, and TGF-β signaling.
Description
This NIH grant project aims to develop human cornea organoids (HCOs) as a donor tissue-free source of regenerative biomaterial and cells for corneal stromal keratocyte modeling. The research focuses on integration and function of HCO-stromal cells in decellularized donor corneas, promotion of scarless wound healing in mice, and identification of TGF-β signals underpinning immature ECM of HCOs to treat corneal scarring.
