Description
The goal of this proposal for a P50 Center is to expand existing strengths and expertise in Nebraska to develop a novel niche in alcohol research, by creating a Center focused on the Alcohol Exposome. The hypothesis is that under the comprehensive schema of the exposome, alcohol is an environmental exposure that, in context with other internal and external factors, influences disease etiology and pathophysiology. The project aims to facilitate interdisciplinary research to understand how factors like age, nutritional status, cigarette smoking, and pathogen exposure interact with alcohol in humans; create a Biospecimen Core to support translational animal and human tissue and cell models; and enhance collaboration through training, symposia, and pilot grants. The research will utilize state-of-the-art facilities at UNMC, Nebraska Medical Center, and University of Nebraska-Lincoln, involving faculty from multiple departments and colleges.
