A pilot randomized controlled trial funded by NIH/NIMHD to evaluate a clinic-based self-concept intervention for young African American children to improve behavioral health and literacy.

Description

This project aims to develop and evaluate a self-concept intervention (SCR4ESR) for young African American children to improve behavioral health and literacy, based on a well-established program called Reach Out and Read (ROR). The project involves a pilot randomized controlled trial at AltaMed clinics affiliated with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, targeting children aged 2-4 years. The intervention includes providing themed children’s books and advice during health visits. The project will assess feasibility, acceptability, and impact on self-concept, behavioral health, and literacy, using mixed methods and structural equation modeling.
