Description
This project focuses on defining the roles of the epigenetic hub protein SETBP1 in regulating the switch from a homeostatic epigenomic signature to an arthritic epigenomic signature of fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLS) in inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. The research aims to test the hypothesis that downregulation of SETBP1 promotes joint degeneration in inflammatory joint disease by conditional inactivation of Setbp1 in adult joints in a mouse model of rheumatoid arthritis. The project will explore the interaction between inflammation and SETBP1, the epigenetic status of FLS, and upstream mechanisms regulating SETBP1 expression, with the goal of establishing SETBP1 as a potential therapeutic target.
