NIH awarded a research grant to Mayo Clinic Rochester to develop a noninvasive ultrasound tool for early diagnosis and monitoring of peripheral arterial disease without using contrast agents.

Description

This project aims to develop a low-cost, noninvasive ultrasound-based tool called Angio Flow Reactivity Analysis (AFRA) for imaging microvascular changes associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The technique does not require contrast agents and involves processing ultrasound data to estimate blood flow signals in the calf muscle, analyzing flow variations in response to external pressure and exercise. The goal is to enable early diagnosis, monitor disease progression, and assess response to treatment in PAD patients.
